Best cartridge mounted gas burner on market, but use a tall windshield

Excellent stove. Only disadvantage is it is tall, like all cartridge mounted stoves, unless you use a useless small gas bottle. I normally take mine to the beach, and bury most of the bottle in sand. This allows the use of a normal short windshield.In the UK, propane is the only way forward if you want to boil more than a litre, or fry and want to use disposable cartridges. Forget about butane, unless you use a stove that takes inverted canisters like the Coleman Fyrestorm, Jetboil Helios, GoSystems Thermopro, GoSystems Flexi-fuel or GoSystems Apollo at a much higher price . OR if you don't mind carrying around a 907 or Calor cylinder.This is because the gas offtake of a butane stove causes the gas to reduce in temperature to below 0 degrees and stay as liquid. As propane has a liquifying temperature of -42 degrees, this will not happen with a propane stove.Camping gaz will not tell you this, and the fanciful power figures given for cartridge butane stoves are for a very short period on a full cylinder on a warm day with no wind.You can save gas and maintain power on a windy day by using a tall windshield, which Coleman wrongly say that you don't need, but at least you won't have the power plummetting after five minutes as you do with a butane cartridge.Very useful stopped gas control enabling proper adjustment to flame.If you are looking for a more stable single burner stove try the less powerful Camping Gaz Bistro, with cheaper and more widely available gas or Coleman PowerPack stove.

Really good, solid unit

Bought this to use with the bigger Coleman 1lb cylinders because they're so much more economical, it's a fairly big solid unit, not a backpacking stove at all in my view, but we take it when we go off in the kayaks; very impressed so far. Just the bulk of it gets 4 stars not 5, but otherwise can't fault it - that beast of a base is very stable too.
